Tzatziki (Tsaht-zee-kee) is a light, creamy refreshing sauce or Dip from Greek Cuisine.
Its a healthy After school snack option with sliced vegetables and pita chips.
Tzatziki can be used as Simple sandwich spread, a dip for lamp chops, Gyros, Shawarma or chicken souvlaki.
Ingredients
- Cucumber: 1 Cup (Grated/Thinly Diced)
- Plain Greek Yogurt (you can use strained homemade yogurt): 1 1⁄2 Cup
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil: 1 Tablespoon
- Chopped Fresh mint and/or Dill Leaves: 2Teaspoons
- Lemon Juice: 1Teaspoon
- Garlic Clove (minced) :1
- Sea Salt : to taste
Instructions:
- Peel the cucumber and scoop off the seeds with a spoon.
- Finely chop the cucumber and transfer into a bowl squeezing as much water as you can from the cucumber then add kosher salt and keep it for 5 more minutes and squeeze it again(this step helps us to get Thicker consistency for the dip).
- Mix Everything except olive oil.
- Garnish with olive oil and Cumin powder (optional) on top.
Tips:
Instead of chopping Cucumber you can grate the cucumber.
Tzatziki tastes better if you keep it aside for 30min or so as the flavors blend together.
Tzatziki can be made 2-3 days ahead without adding herbs (add herbs on the same day of serving) and storing in airtight container in refrigerator.
