This creamy strawberry milkshake made with ice cream and fresh strawberry is great for hot summer days! Summers is the best season to get some beautiful red strawberries that would make the best strawberry milkshakes. Even the kids who avoid eating fresh juicy strawberries, love these milkshakes for one of its main ingredients - Ice Cream.
WHY HOMEMADE MILKSHAKE IS A BETTER CHOICE?
Milkshakes are very easy to make at home with few ingredients. Think of all fresh strawberries with no strawberry syrup. Just pure, fresh strawberries that’s refreshing.
If you want to re-create fast food chain style strawberry milkshake then use ¼ cup cream and ¼ cup milk instead of ½ cup milk and top it up with whipped cream. In most of these chain restaurants, generally, they add strawberry syrup which is best to avoid.
FOR NON DAIRY STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE?
Use non dairy ice cream like ones that are made with almond milk and also use almond milk instead of dairy milk.
HOW TO MAKE A THICKER MILKSHAKE
Two ways to make it thicker:
- Hull the strawberries and slice them. Sprinkle sugar over them and keep the strawberries in the freezer for about an hour.
- You can add less milk. This recipe calls for 1⁄2 cup of milk, but you can add more or less depending on how thick you’d like your shake.
TIPS ON HOW TO STORE YOUR STRAWBERRIES :
We get our strawberries from farmers market, the big box. I use these techniques to store them.
Strawberries get mushy and spoils fast. So when you get from the store dry them out on a paper towel and remove the moisture before storing in the fridge.
Separate ripe ones for immediate use. Unripe ones can be stored in air tight glass jars in the coolest part of fridge. It stays good for up to 2 weeks.
STORING IN FREEZER FOR THREE MONTHS:
Take advantage of peak season (April - June), and freeze your strawberries for smoothies, milkshakes, shortcakes, and cereal. To do this rinse, pat dry, and hull whole berries, cut sides down, on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet; freeze, uncovered, for six hours. Then transfer to a freezer bag. You can store them in the freezer for up to three months.
