This oven roasted okra, also known as ladys finger, is one of my favorite vegetables. Its a quick and delicious side. This oven roasted okra is a healthy alternative to oil fried okras. If you hate okra for its sliminess, you will start liking them after tasting this. Roasting makes it slightly crunchy and crispy.
It doesnt take much time to pop them into the oven and roast them. In fact, you can make it on stove top too.
How To Roast Okra?
First, wash the okras and dry them completely. Next, thin slice them. Preheat oven to 425. Add okras to pan or cookie sheet along with salt, chili powder and bread crumbs. Drizzle olive oil and mix. Last, slide it in to preheated oven and roast for about 16 minutes and broil it for about 3 minutes. Serve it as side or snack.
Washing and drying: after washing the okras pat dry them with the kitchen towel. Place cut okras on a paper towel to absorb moisture if you prefer crisp okras.
Bread crumbs : Adding bread crumbs to okra cuts down the sliminess. It can be replaced with roasted gram powder or corn flour.
Tips for choosing okra
- Bright Green: Okras taste best when they are fresh. So choose ones that are green and not pale or dull without blemishes and damaged spots.
- Slender: choose slender ones over thick ones for better taste.
- Firm:Okras should be firm to touch but not hard. Hard ones dont cook well.
- Shelf life:Try to cook within a day or two of buying okras. Fresh okras taste better than stale ones.
